Advancing Excellence in Eritrean Public Health Through ISO 9001 Standards





The Eritrean Public Health Association (ERIPHA), through its Research and Continuous Education Committee, has announced a new initiative to strengthen the quality of national health services1. The Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program, titled "Quality Management Systems in Public Health," is designed to introduce the globally recognized ISO 9001:2015 framework to the country’s health sector.

The Drive for Quality

The program addresses the complexity of service delivery and the need for consistent outcomes at the district level3. By adopting QMS principles, health officers will be empowered to standardize processes, reduce service delivery errors, and enhance community satisfaction.

Expert Leadership

The program will be led by Mr. Merhawi Debesai, a highly experienced Pharmacist and the current Head of Quality Management Systems at the National Medicines and Food Administration (NMFA) of the Ministry of Health.

  1. Professional Background: Debesai brings over ten years of experience in medicines regulation, supply chain management, and quality monitoring66.
  2. Academic Contribution: He has published 16 scientific articles and a book chapter focused on tropical diseases and medicine safety.
  3. Former Role: He previously served as an operations officer at the Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies Corporation of Eritrea (PHARMECOR).

Membership is open to all individuals above 18 years of age who fulfill the requirements of the Association as stated in this Constitution. There are three categories of members as identified hereunder. Membership is approved only after filling the appropriate form and paying the required fee.
